What is hair wax?

Your hairstyle is a reflection of your personality and individual look. However you like to style your locks - whether slick and neat or big and messy - products such as  hair wax and hair gel are invaluable. But what are they, how do they differ, and which one is the right choice for your hair? Read on to discover the pros and cons of these hair styling heroes!

Hair Wax

Sometimes called  paste or clay, hair wax is a styling product made from plant or animal-derived waxes. It has a thick consistency and is used to hold the hair in various styles while adding texture (and shine, in the case of  hair pomade). Hair wax is pliable and doesn't make the hair stiff.

Hair Gel

Thinner and more translucent than wax, hair gel locks your style in place and gives a glossy look but can leave hair feeling hard and kinda crispy.

What are the benefits of hair wax vs hair gel?

With wax, the creative styling possibilities are near-endless. You can...

  • Create texture and movement
  • Flaunt super-soft styles that last
  • Restyle with just a pinch of your fingers
  • Sweep it through your whole hair or enhance certain parts
  • Style your hair no matter the length, whether short or long
  • Express yourself and switch up your look as much as you like
  • Care for your hair while you style with an alcohol-free product

Are there any downsides to using hair wax?

Wax can feel greasy or sticky - if you apply too much. And it can take a little more time to create your desired style.

But while gel may be great when you're in a hurry, it doesn't offer as much styling flexibility. For whipping up creative styles and redoing your 'do, wax is a hair wonder!
